Cool In a SHTF kind of world, will

I was thinking that in a terrible SHTF kind of world, which by the way I hope NEVER happens, would gold holders want to trade their gold for silver since, in my opinion, silver would be a much more useful unit of money for everyday use?

In this type of SHTF world, perhaps the GSR might go as low as 20 to 1 or even 10 to 1, in my opinion.

Am I totally wrong in my thinking here?

Any thoughts?

Thanks .........

Yes, for smaller transactions silver would be much more practical. But for larger transactions gold would still rule.

Cool

I am thinking about the time after things start to settle a bit, when folks start to organize into some sort of civilization once again.

During this time and after, I was thinking that silver may be more useful for day to day life in the re-start of civilization.

Thanks .........

Would you rather go buy something with a $2,000.00 bill or a hand full of $3.00, $7.00 or $20.00 dollar bills?

Anyone who believe the worst could happen, needs a pretty good percentage of their PMs in 90%(it wears well) and the rest in one ouncers. I do own some ten ounce bars, but I bought them to possibly trade with for a profit. They are extra and above what I need for the hard time. I may keep it all. I own all silver and no gold.

If you really think about actually having to buy or trade with it, gold would be a problem. Unless they make a 1/100 ounce round or something. And it would not wear well.

To each his own. It is according to what you believe. Washington has over spent to the degree we are about to go over the cliff. I am preparing and I feel good about it. If it doesn't happen I will still be glad I was prepared. I think it is equally important to have a good supply of food on hand.

Default gold holder

this gold holder won't trade for silver. the gold will buy the larger things that can be had cheap after a big blow up. I think you will find that most gold people have silver also to be ready for whatever. ask on the gold forum. I just don't see only silver being used by itself for day to day life. there will be some form of portable folding money or digital medium of exchange even if its drawn from credits on a bullion vault at some exchange basis. people will have to store it somewhere secure and draw on it as needed.

I only hope we get a chance to regroup...
I think the regroup is already planned...and no, PM's and personal wealth is not a part of the strategy...IMHO

Default If the PMs maintain some type of ratio

If Gold is X times greater ratio to Silver...then probably.

You will see far more Silver "on the streets" than Gold.

Gold shavings will probably be popular or very small 1/20th Oz. Gold coins.

Gold will mostly be used by governments, banks, and large companies.

An ounce of Gold might buy a large item...but if we are only dealing in survival terms of food and simple shelter, and simple items...then Silver is probably the way to go.

That said, I'd try to put 50/50 of your fiat into Gold and Silver for physical.

If you have to transport your stuff Gold is probably lighter weight...or maybe even diamonds and gemstones. But, if you are hunkering down...then Silver is probably best.
